Civil Society & Organizing

My civil society work centers on feminist organizing, survivor-led justice initiatives, and institution-building under conditions of conflict and exile. Over the past decade, I have led, advised, and designed advocacy and civic programs in Syria and internationally, working closely with survivors, women’s movements, and grassroots organizations.

CORE WORK

Chair & Co-Founder, Don’t Suffocate the Truth

2017 – Present | Syria / Global

I co-founded and lead Don’t Suffocate the Truth, a survivor-centered campaign confronting denial of chemical weapons attacks in Syria. The work centers survivors’ testimony, challenges disinformation, and advances truth-seeking and accountability initiatives with Syrian and international partners.

The campaign works across advocacy, documentation, public narrative, and coalition-building, supporting survivors while pushing back against political normalization that erases chemical weapons crimes.

Founder, Syrian Sisterhood

2020 – Present | Global

I founded Syrian Sisterhood as a global peer-led network connecting Syrian women across borders for career coaching, mentorship, and professional exchange. The initiative supports women navigating work, displacement, and leadership in exile.

Executive Director, Kesh Malek

2014 – 2017 | Northern Syria

I served as Executive Director of Kesh Malek during the height of the Syrian conflict, leading education and civic-engagement programs in opposition-held areas. I managed a team of over 300 staff and volunteers, oversaw donor relations, and guided strategic partnerships under active conflict conditions.

Kesh Malek played a central role in sustaining local education, media, and civic initiatives when formal institutions collapsed.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL CIVIL SOCIETY WORK

Alongside my core initiatives, I have worked in advisory and consulting roles with civil society organizations, cultural platforms, and advocacy campaigns focused on justice, gender, and political participation.

  • Conference Coordinator, Syrian Civil Society International Conference on Chemical Weapons (2024–2025) – The Hague & Damascus
  • Strategic Advisor, Child Houses (2024–2025) – Syria
  • Strategy Consultant, Madaniya (2023) – Civic conference design
  • Impact Campaign Consultant, For Sama (2019–2020) – Global advocacy
  • Communication Consultant, Syrian Women’s Political Movement (2017–2019)

Across these roles, my work has combined feminist analysis, survivor-led advocacy, and strategic communication to strengthen civil society responses to violence, denial, and political exclusion, with a sustained focus on Syria.
